I use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to help children and their parents cope with the stress of grief, loss, divorce, and trauma. TF-CBT provides children with age-appropriate tools to process overwhelming feelings while also supporting parents in understanding and responding to their child’s emotional needs. Alongside this, I integrate Narrative Therapy, where children and families create their own stories about the challenges they face. Each child has the opportunity to write a “book” that re-frames their experience, building resilience and giving them a voice in their healing journey. If they choose, these stories can be printed into a hardbound book they keep—a tangible reminder of their strength and progress.
I am trained in both TF-CBT and Narrative Therapy, two approaches supported by extensive research showing their effectiveness in helping children heal from trauma, strengthen family bonds, and improve emotional well-being. These evidence-based methods give families not just coping tools, but also new ways to make meaning out of difficult experiences.
I also offer Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), a highly effective, evidence-based approach that strengthens the parent-child relationship through guided play and structured coaching. In sessions, I teach parents specific skills to use at home—like labeled praise, effective commands, and reflective listening—that not only reduce concerning behaviors but also nurture closeness and trust. My approach emphasizes empowering parents to feel confident in supporting their child, while helping children feel heard, valued, and connected through play.
I am also trained in PCIT, which decades of research has shown to be one of the most effective interventions for young children with behavioral concerns. Studies consistently demonstrate that PCIT reduces disruptive behaviors, decreases parental stress, and improves the overall quality of the parent-child relationship. By combining my training with real-time coaching, I support parents in building practical skills they can use every day, long after sessions have ended.
I also provide EMDR therapy for children, an evidence-based approach proven to help with trauma, anxiety, grief, and other overwhelming experiences. EMDR uses simple, child-friendly techniques such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds to help the brain process difficult memories in a safe and supported way. For children, this often feels like guided play or storytelling, where the “scary” or painful memories lose their intensity over time. Parents are included in the process so they can support their child’s healing at home. Research has shown EMDR to be highly effective in reducing trauma symptoms and building resilience, allowing children to feel safer, calmer, and more confident as they move forward.
When working with children, I believe it is essential to involve the family in the healing process. Research consistently shows that therapy is most effective when parents or caregivers are engaged alongside their child. Studies on treatments such as TF-CBT, PCIT, and EMDR demonstrate that children make greater progress when parents learn new skills, provide support at home, and work on strengthening their own connection with their child. Family involvement helps children feel safe, understood, and supported, while also giving parents practical tools to manage stress, reduce conflict, and build stronger bonds. By working together, therapy not only addresses symptoms but also creates lasting change in the family system.
